curious.paris.

hide

seek

i keep thinking about this photo from a recent trip to paris, which was lovely as paris always is. there was this quirky artist near sacre coeur who absolutely did not want to be in a photo. i managed to get this photo of him next to his self portrait in the background of a photo of myself. he and i played a game of hide and seek for almost an hour before i succeeded! he saw the flash and darted behind the painting just a few seconds too late.

i am working on so many projects this weekend for both of my etsy shops, intelligent design and quiet love, and cannot wait to get them in my shops and on the blog! there are just too many ideas floating around in my head and too little time. here are some of my newest listings on quiet love. happy memorial weekend!

love.legos.

sometimes we just need to take some time to play.

one of the toys i miss most from my childhood are my pink legos. i just loved them and have contemplated purchasing some legos recently to play with. i came across these new frank lloyd write legos on design boom and they are just fantastic. i can't wait to get them! if only building models in architecture studios could have such clean lines and perfect finishes...

love.keil mead.

i had come across keil mead's jewelry on a few design blogs, but saw it for the first time over the weekend at a icff event. the forget me not rings are just adorable and the gold retainer was wow. i love it when totally ordinary objects get to become special.

love.obsession.cameras.

superheadz blackbird camera [via urban outfitters]

cameras have been a love of mine for years and i am so excited to see them popping up everywhere form urban outfitters to etsy to the new fujifilm instax (so upset that polaroid is no more!). i miss the smell of the dark room chemicals the process of making a photograph rather than just taking one with your easy to use digital camera. shouldn't capturing a moment forever take more than an instant?

i have the obligatory digital camera, a plastic cheapo camera that i love (and that takes print film) and a rolleiflex medium format camera from the 40's that my dad's baby photos were taken with. my rollei is priceless, in the mastercard sense.

love.crayons.

who doesn't love crayons? these crayon stones at rompstore.com are just too fun and a bit more of an adult take than the traditional kind. i'm tempted to put these in a bowl on the coffee table next to a stack of cocktail napkins and see if anyone gets curious.

burst cocktail ring $10

mirror cocktail ring $5

i have two etsy shops, intelligent design and quiet love, that have jewelry and other projects im working on. i decided to keep two because they have somewhat different aesthetics. quiet love is the more feminine, pretty sides of things and intelligent design takes more chance, is more daring, more crazy. i have relisted two great new rings on intelligent design today. they're both fun, whimsical and metal (a material j'adore).

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

romantic.bicycles.

"colour ride" [via kamshots flickr]

"full basket" [via kamshots flickr]

"girl on bike" [via saragoldsmith flickr]

i dont have a bicycle and probably won't get one because my apartment just doesn't have the space for them; however, i find sunday afternoons lazily romantic in the same way that bicycles are. in particular, women in dresses riding bicycles. reminiscent of bad movies and a time before pants and lots of awkward outdated loveliness. it's an image of of such freedom and feminine independence to me. and romance.

three cheers for the romantic bicyclist. a little flickr compilation above.

inspire.if you could do anything tomorrow, what would it be?

"live a simple life" by build

"make records" by joe burrin and tom crabtree

"stay in and draw" by jason munn

if you could do anything tomorrow, what would it be? it's always a fitting question for sunday evening, right before another week starts. are you doing what you really want to? am i? do any of us really get to? i keep reading that people are most successful if they absolutely love what they do. i wonder how many people absolutely love what they do. i do absolutely love the life i live, but some of the day to day cubicle-ness does get a bit tedious. i need to come up with a great new word to describe the state of being in a cubicle.

here are a few ideas of what you could do tomorrow if it were anything from the "if you could: collaborate" project.

[via if you could]

love.live what you love.

i just received my "live what you love" print from hijirik studio's etsy shop and it's absolutely perfect. this week's project is to find the perfect frame. i will probably end up with something simple and black. i've wanting this print for such a long time and have tried to resist too much spending on etsy. it's just such a great motto to live by or just as a reminder (conscious or subconscious). i'm tempted to put it in my cubicle [hint: i don't love cubicle life that much] but i feel like it might mock me or incite me to quit, which is not what i need to be doing. we can all dream ...

[via hijirik studio]

love.prints.

these simple prints by mike montiero just put a smile on my face. i've been catching myself stopping by his website at work. they remind me a dear old friend and while they might be a bit glib, or even pretentious, i think they're just fun.

the one above is reminds me that we aren't all as special as we'd like to think. at least not today.
